An unusually large 16th century Italian etching of The Vision of St. Peter after Jacopo Tintoretto

Image of An unusually large 16th century Italian etching of The Vision of St. Peter after Jacopo Tintoretto

Anonymous, after Jacopo Tintoretto
Italy; 16th century
Printed on laid paper with a small circle watermark

Approximate size: 13.5 x 21.25 in.

The present print is apparently very rare. We identify only one other example at the Rijksmuseum (inv. RP-P-2004-26). The scene depicting St. Peter’s vision of the cross is based on a painting by Jacopo Tintoretto in the Chiesa Madonna dell'Orto in Venice, formerly featured on an organ in this church.

The print is by a talented engraver, yet-to-be-identified, but of very good quality.

Condition: A strong impression, slightly colored paper commensurate with age. Very minor foxing along edges.
